What is a Limited Liability Company (LLC)?

A limited liability company is is a business structure that protects its owners from personal responsibility for its debts or liabilities. It is seen as a hybrid structure that combines features of both a corporation and a partnership.
Like a corporation, LLCs provide their owners with limited liability in the event the business fails or gets sued. But like a partnership, LLCs “pass-through” their profits so that they are taxed as part of the owner's personal income. This avoids "double taxation" of both the company and its individual owners.

An LLC also offers tax flexibility. They can choose to be taxed as a sole proprietor, a partnership, an S corporation or a C corporation.
